Degree
A degree is an official document of successful completion of undergraduate studies or program in a specialized field of study. Its usually for a period of 2 or 4 years.
A diploma is a certificate awarded by an educational establishment to certify that a student has acquired a number of skills in a specialized field.
A certificate is an official document that certifies a true statement. These are usually a certificate of attendance for a short training course.
These words overlap and could be misunderstood. Note that no entity is allowed confer a degree, diploma, nor a certificate to a person without proper licensing from an official government body or recognized agency.
Certificates
Our institute provide many short training courses. Participants in these courses do not gain credits towards a degree but they get certificate of attendance. For this reason, certificates are often called non-degree certificates. Short courses are different as they focus on gaining a specific knowledge or a one-single skill that is beneficial to the learner personally or his career.

Accreditation and Authorization
Authorization
New start-up institutes obtain licensure/authorization by the state or country they reside in. This is a permission to conduct educational business and confer a degree in that state. After rigorous review, the agency issues an authorization for operation and to confer scientific degrees.
Gary International Institute
One of our goals is to seek international recognition. We plan to gain multiple licensing and accreditation. We have already started the process by visiting an online training center of the desired accrediting agency and attended their online trainings. We are currently:
Accreditation
Accreditation is a voluntary, nongovernmental process to evaluate an institute according to pre-set criteria by the accrediting agency. It includes a comprehensive review of the university’s mission, administration, faculty, and curriculum. Accreditation is a lengthy process that takes 3 to 5 years. It consists of several steps such as conducting a self-assessment study, submission of an initial application, a thorough revision made by the agency, followed by a site visit, and finally, a final report is issued regarding accreditation approval.

Gary International Institute is currently licensed by the Board of Regents of the State of Louisiana. Licenses are renewed by the State Board of Regents every two years. Licensed institutions have met minimal operational standards set forth by the state, but licensure does not constitute accreditation, guarantee the transferability of credit, nor signify that programs are certifiable by any professional agency or organization
